UFC President Dana White risks the wrath of his biggest star, Conor McGregor, after ruling out the Irishman’s request to fight Dustin Poirier this year and instead offering him a date for the possible fight on January 23rd.
McGregor loudly expressed his desire for a rematch with Poirier, initially calling for a benefit exhibition game with the American in his hometown of Dublin in December – but those plans appear to have fallen by the wayside after White confirmed he was in the process of organizing a UFC fight agreement to be sent to both men.

Conor McGregor says he’ll accept the UFC rematch with old rival Dustin Poirier, provided the fight happens THIS YEAR
After not fighting since Donald Cerrone’s 40-second destruction in January, McGregor wrote on social media that he was aiming for a November or December fight with Poirier, whom he had previously defeated by TKO in the first round in 2014 .
However, White failed to respond to McGregor’s demands and offered him an appointment in late January, and reports say there is no room for him to negotiate.
“We offered him a fight, we gave him his own date,” White told ESPN. “We haven’t had a date this year. We have set up everything for this year, with world champions fighting for titles. He apparently wants to fight Dustin Poirier, so we went to ESPN and got him his own date. He was offered. ” Dustin Poirier on January 23rd.
“It’s a yes or no answer.”

This is likely to meet stiff opposition from McGregor, who stated that the fight would have to take place on November 21st or December 12th on the previously agreed pay-per-views. However, both events already include two title fights – and White said he wasn’t ready to change the company’s schedule to accommodate McGregor.
When asked why McGregor insists on fighting before the turn of the year, White was unable to provide an explanation.
“I have no idea,” he said.
“It doesn’t work that way. We planned for this year. He was retired. Would anyone disagree that he is retired? We faced many challenges in this insane year of pandemics.
“A lot of things have been done to make this thing work. We did it. We set our schedule. The fighters have committed to it. The fighters have started training for these fights. Conor has come back and wants to fight Dustin, So we went out and got him his own date. It’s January 23rd. “
