WarnerMedia streamer HBO Max has acquired the rights to Channel 4’s sex worker series Adult Material under a contract with Banijay Rights.
Produced by Banijay production outfit Fifty Fathoms, the series Hayley Squires (Collateral) stars as British pornstar Jolene Dollar, who balances her on-screen sex work with the reality of motherhood at home. Rupert Everet can also be seen as Carroll, the dollar producer.
Adult material was written by Lucy Kirkwood (The Smoke) and tells a fun and erotic story about sex in the age of the internet, the blurring of fantasy and reality, and economic choices for women.
HBO Max will be streaming the series in December after it was released on Channel 4 this month. The deal was brokered by Matt Creasey, Banijay Rights EVP for distribution, co-production and acquisitions in the rest of the world.
Adult material is directed by Dawn Shadforth and written by Kirkwood, who is executive producer alongside Patrick Spence. Producers are Patrick Spence and Sara Hamill.
HBO Max becomes more active in the acquisition area. Last week it took over the rights to Skys I Hate Suzie, while today it also won Studiocanal’s psychological thriller Possessions.
