Jorge Masvidal fell short in his second attempt to take the welterweight title around the waist from Kamaru Usman but says the next man, UFC arsonist Colby Covington, will suffer a similar fate later that year.
Masvidal was knocked out for the first time in his 50-strong career at the UFC event last weekend in Jacksonville, Florida when Usman connected a flush right hand that crumpled ‘Gamebred’ onto the big screen.
The win was Usman’s 14th straight in the UFC and was enough to put him in second place on the organization’s pound-for-pound list when the new rankings were released this week – and Masvidal says that Usmans The winning streak is set to continue if he welcomes the challenges of the controversial Covington.
“I think Kamaru is holding his hands up and coming to fight Colby, just like the first time. He just beats him thoroughly,” Masvidal told ESPN.
“Colby is going to try to get a couple of takedowns against him and it might not work. Colby’s gas tank with other wrestlers is not something he wants to do. So he didn’t take a shot in the first fight because he knows he’s going tired Need to become. “
The Usman-Covington sequel will be a rematch of a highly competitive match between the two in December 2019 that ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ won through the late TKO finish – a conclusion Covington has since protested.
But as far as Masvidal sees it, Covington won’t be able to do much against the man who stands alone as the best welterweight fighter in the world.

“As long as Kamaru is in wrestling form and comes up with his hands up and pressure on him like the first time, I think he’ll break him again,” concluded Masvidal.
“His hands are where they need to be. I bet he’ll be more confident than ever because he knows I’m someone who’s never finished.
“So he can definitely take this with pride, put his hard head on and get on with the work. I think he’ll get an end to Colby.”
