Neelam Singh had been on a school bus for 18 years when the pandemic broke out.
Schools closed when India was locked down but the number of cases continued to rise, particularly in the city of Mumbai, where Ms. Singh lives.
Given the lack of ambulances, officials decided to use school buses to drive patients to and from hospitals.
Ms. Singh knew the risks when she took on her new role. Mumbai is one of the hardest hit cities in India.
But even after she recovered from Covid-19, there was no question of quitting.
