A missing Indonesian submarine was found broken on the ocean floor in waters off Bali, the military said on Sunday when it confirmed that all 53 crew members were dead.

“There were parts of KRI Nanggala 402 – it was broken into three parts,” said Navy chief of staff Yudo Margono.

The Indonesian military chief Hadi Tjahjanto told reporters that “all 53 employees on board have passed.”

The submarine – one of five submarines in the Indonesian fleet – disappeared on Wednesday during live torpedo training exercises off the Indonesian holiday island of Bali.
