Famous Indian singer SP Balasubrahmanyam died in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest. This comes from a statement from the hospital that treated him.
74-year-old Balasubrahmanyam died Friday at MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai after being admitted there on August 5 for severe pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus. The singer tested negative almost a month later, on September 4, the hospital said.
However, Balasubrahmanyam’s condition worsened despite “maximum” life support measures, the press release added.

The singer has won numerous awards over the course of his 50-year career. He sang more than 40,000 songs, a Guinness world record, in 16 languages, including Tamil, Telegu and Hindi.
After Balasubrahmanyam’s death, honors poured in from all over India, many calling it a great loss. Celebrities and fans used social media to show their respect.

Indian film actor Akshay Kumar mentioned a virtual concert he held with Balasubrahmanyam in April during the COVID-19 lockdown in India.
“He looked healthy, hearty, and his usual legendary self … life is really unpredictable. My thoughts and prayers with his family, ”wrote Kumar on Twitter.

Balasubrahmanyam received six national awards including the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri, India’s third and fourth highest civil awards.
He is survived by his wife and two children. His son SPB Charan is a film producer and singer.
Balasubrahmanyam will be cremated at his farmhouse on Saturday with state honors from the Tamil Nadu government.
