Police say 12yo boy who racially abused Premier League star Wilfried Zaha is 'extremely remorseful' after diversity education — RT Sport News

West Midlands police said the 12-year-old boy, who was arrested for sending racist abuse to Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, was “extremely remorseful” for his actions after raising awareness of diversity and discrimination had been.

A police spokesman said the 27-year-old supports the youth’s education in collaboration with the anti-discrimination organization Kick It Out.

Police said: “The boy was extremely remorseful for his actions and received training as part of the restorative justice process.

“This was victimized and guided by Kick It Out.

“The sessions provided a better understanding of equality, diversity, discrimination and unacceptable behavior.

“They also highlighted the impact of hate crimes on others and further punishment if he was insulted again. We continue to work with the boy and there have been no repeated violations since then. “

Zaha drew attention on social media to the abuse that had received racist threats and images of the Ku Klux Klan ahead of the Eagles 2-0 loss to Aston Villa in July.

West Midlands Police then announced on Twitter that they had made an arrest in connection with the abuse that took the 12-year-old from Solihull into custody.

Zaha thanked the police for their “quick action” on the matter and said, “We need action, we need education, things that need to change.”

The Ivory Coast international has played four games for Palace this season, scoring four goals.
