Russia reported 17,717 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, setting a new record in daily gains since the pandemic began. This is based on data from the country’s coronavirus response center.
Russia reported a new record number of coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, killing 366 people.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Russia as of October 29 was 1,581,693 with a total of 27,301 fatalities.
Russia’s coronavirus situation continues to get complicated, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said in a video conference with President Vladimir Putin and senior government officials on Wednesday.
Golikova said there is a critical situation in 16 Russian regions where hospital beds are more than 90% full and more than 95% of bed capacity is occupied in five regions.
Russia announced a nationwide mask mandate earlier this week as the daily increase in Covid-19 cases remains high. People across the country are required to wear masks in public spaces, public transport, parking lots and elevators.
Russia’s Health and Consumer Protection Agency Rospotrebnadzor also recommended that restaurants and bars close between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
