Former Premier League referee Howard Webb achieved his perfect match by marrying a pioneer who works in the German Bundesliga, leading to inevitable jokes about the Englishman’s alleged inclination to Man United.
Webb, who in 2010 was the first official to oversee the World Cup and Champions League finals in the same year, married Bibiana Steinhaus, who made history as the first female referee in a top European league.
The couple are in a long-distance relationship due to Webb’s role as manager of VAR operations in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, which has prompted them to relocate to New Jersey and New York.
“Yes, it’s true,” confirmed the 42-year-old Steinhaus Bild and revealed that she had exchanged her vows with her lover last month. “We got married during the last international break and are very happy.
“Unfortunately, due to coronavirus regulations, Howard and I were only able to take this important step [alone] in a couple.

“Not even witnesses were allowed. [And] Of course there was no honeymoon. “
When the news turned its back on former South Yorkshire Policeman compatriots across the English Channel, cracks of wisdom streamed in based on allegations of bias against a particular club.

“I bet Fergie was on the guest list,” remarked one reader on Twitter when another asked if legendary Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson – known as “Fergie” and known for his volatile relationship with referees – was the best Was a man.
Another asked if the wedding was “overridden by VAR,” reviewing the Video Assistant Referee’s technology, which has been divisive since Webb stepped down as the middle man in 2014.
